But no matter what questions you may ask yourselves regarding the President, there are hard facts we can look at and question him as President of the United States.
70% of the US population disagrees with building a mosque in the shadow of Ground Zero. And yet, he stated last week-end, at a Ramadan dinner, that:
"Muslims have the right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country," …"That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances…”… "This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable."
Some will say that “the people”, sometimes, don’t know better than their leaders. I agree. However, mankind will always make mistakes, our lifetimes are short and we should receive, from our elected leaders, what we are asking of them, for this is not about religious freedom and this is not a legal decision. This is a moral and philosophical decision. One that he has no right to make when the people of his country have clearly sent him a message saying: “We do not wish to be disrespected by those responsible of committing the 9/11 crime’’.
Obama goes on to say that it is not Muslims that attacked the US on that historical day, it is Al-Qaida. But Al-Qaida attacked the US vowing a religious war while calling the citizens of this country infidels, all in the name of Allah. Whether all Muslims agree with this or not is not the question. It is still a religious war created by Muslims. Did every British citizen think that they had to fight the Nazis? Not at all. But could we say that England was not really fighting the Germans because not everyone in that country thought it was ok to do so?
By allowing them to build a mosque at that particular location, Obama is only showing weakness, not extending them a peaceful hand. With only 1.6% of the American population being Muslims, the citizens of the United States have yet to understand the changes and complications it will create once they become a more important portion of society (and they will). Yet, 70% of them already agree that this mosque is a bad idea. Imagine what it will be like in a few years… They thought they had issues with the Latinos!
As Europe awoke to the Muslim situation and started taking protective measures, most American newspapers including The New York Times and the USA Today have accused them of being xenophobe and racists. But in some European countries, we are looking at 4, 6 even 9% of the population being Muslim (such as France). For journalists not to know any better is a disgrace. For normal people caught in the numerous tasks of their daily lives, it is a different issue.
A large portion of Muslims don’t respect the culture of their adoptive country. They don’t respect the laic status of these countries. And they sure don’t respect other’s freedom of choice. If you can not travel the world on a regular basis, you can not understand the real issues other countries face in terms of Muslims immigration. You only see the little magnified side journalists want you to see. I understand that to travel extensively is a luxury not many can afford but it is really the only way to finally understand life as it is.
So who is Obama? What is he trying to do to the US? That is a question I believe to be more and more relevant with every word he says… I am no conspiracy theorist and I could never believe that he was placed there by Muslims. However, Obama is definitely pro-Muslims. As an individual, he has beliefs that are much closer to other countries (not only Muslims one) than the US. He has every right to believe what he wants to believe. In fact, his difference makes him an asset to US political life. But I personally do not think he currently represents the interest of American people for, as shown once again in this debate, he does not think as they do regarding most subjects. He lured them into electing him by promising them changes at a time where everybody was so shaken up that changes sounded good. But I think it is time for the US to go back to what it does best: Being leaders of the free world.
A mosque in the shadow of the 9/11 site? Simply asking the question should answer it!
